Metadata such as origin, selection criteria or design motifs are often not visible in data visualisations, although they have a significant influence on the impact and understanding of the content.
The masters project ‘Full Disclosure’ examines what information can be made visible, invisible or selectively transparent at the interfaces between science and design and what advantages and risks explicit disclosure entails.
At the centre is a collection of 66 aspects – from data origin and source information to content descriptions and questions of authorship. The installation invites visitors to turn cards, open up layers and gain new perspectives by revealing hidden information.
Instead of a linear narrative, a space has been created for reflection on transparency, context and responsibility in dealing with (meta)data. 

There is not an answer to every question. 
Not everything has to be visible at once.

In the Visual Society Program (https://infoklasse.de/visop/), design students from the UdK Berlin collaborate with social scientists from the WZB Berlin Social Science Centre. The program fosters interdisciplinary exchange, helping participants understand each other’s methods and develop new ways to communicate complex research. Each ViSoP project runs for at least twelve months.
Full Disclosure is an outcome of this collaboration. It was developed with the WZB’s Department of Market Behaviour and the Lab² Team. The Lab² approach aligns closely with the project’s focus on transparency and context in research communication.

Metadaten wie Herkunft, Auswahlkriterien oder Gestaltungsmotive sind in Datenvisualisierungen oft nicht sichtbar, obwohl sie ihre Wirkung und das Verständnis der Inhalte wesentlich mitbestimmen.
Die Masterarbeit »Full Disclosure« untersucht, welche Informationen an Schnittstellen zwischen Wissenschaft und Gestaltung sichtbar, unsichtbar oder selektiv transparent gemacht werden können und welche Vorteile und Risiken die explizite Offenlegung mit sich bringt. Im Zentrum steht eine Sammlung von 66 Aspekten – von Datenherkunft und Quellenangaben über inhaltliche Beschreibungen bis hin zu Fragen der Autor*innenschaft. Die Installation lädt dazu ein, mit ihr zu interagieren, Ebenen zu öffnen und durch das Offenlegen verborgener Informationen neue Perspektiven zu gewinnen. 
Anstelle einer linearen Erzählung ist ein Raum für Reflexion über Transparenz, Kontext und Verantwortung im Umgang mit (Meta)Daten entstanden. 

Nicht auf alle Fragen gibt es eine Antwort. 
Nicht alles muss auf einmal sichtbar sein.

Im Rahmen des Visual Society Program (https://infoklasse.de/visop/) arbeiten Designstudierende der UdK Berlin mit Sozialwissenschaftler*innen des Wissenschaftszentrums Berlin (WZB) zusammen. Das Programm fördert den interdisziplinären Austausch und hilft den Teilnehmenden, die Methoden der jeweils anderen Seite zu verstehen und neue Wege zur Vermittlung komplexer Forschungsergebnisse zu entwickeln. Jedes ViSoP-Projekt hat eine Laufzeit von mindestens zwölf Monaten.„Full Disclosure“ ist ein Ergebnis dieser Zusammenarbeit, es wurde gemeinsam mit der Abteilung für Verhalten auf Märkten des WZB und dem Lab²-Team entwickelt. Der Ansatz von Lab² steht in engem Einklang mit dem Schwerpunkt des Projekts auf Transparenz und Kontext in der Forschungskommunikation.
